Pole Instructor

Mikhael (stage name: Valyn) is a Brisbane-based aerialist and pole dancer with a passion for performance. He was first introduced to all things circus in 2012 when a friend dragged him to a pole taster class, and he’s never looked back since. With a background in performing arts, he quickly fell in love with the creative opportunities offered by pole and aerials and is known for the theatrical flair he brings to his performances. Whether it be lyrical, contemporary, comedic or downright #aussieferal exotic, he delights in bringing characters to life and is always on the lookout for the next theme or story to tell. Especially if it means he has a chance to put his set- and costume-making skills to good use!

Valyn’s motto when it comes to pole and aerials is that there is no such thing as “never”, just “not yet”. He believes that pole/aerials is absolutely for everyone regardless of age, body type or background and is always happy to find alternatives to tricks or entries to make things accessible for students. His favourite thing about teaching is seeing students grow not only in skill but also in confidence and self-esteem and can often be spotted in the background of training videos giving an enthusiastic thumbs-up, round of applause or goofy-looking grin.

Valyn loves learning just as much as he loves teaching and is always on the lookout for opportunities to widen his repertoire of knowledge, both on and off the pole! He began teaching aerials in 2015, specialising in Lyra and started teaching pole a few months later. He has competed and performed at a variety of events including –

  • Mr Pole Dance International Finalist, 2019
  • Mr Pole Dance International Finalist, 2018
  • Pole Theatre Amateur Australia Winner – Comedy Division, 2017
  • MELT Brisbane Cabaret performer – 2016, 2017
